Coaching and consulting to build a life around your creativity

You want to do more with your creative energy.

You want to consistently make work you love, and perhaps earn money with it.

You want a job that's aligned to your creative side.

You want to run your own creative business, or you’re already running one and it’s a handful and you’re exhausted.

You're applying to grad schools or college in the arts.

Maybe you simply want to express yourself more fully.

Do you have a dream but you're not taking action?

What we want is on the other side of what’s difficult to do.

What are the practical conditions, the everyday circumstances of your life and how they intersect with your work?

The practicals might be particular to your industry/medium, but they seem to shake out to skills, space, time, community and audience. Another way to look at it: you need to get good at doing your thing in a space in which you can do it, within a life that affords you time and support, for an audience that appreciates what you're doing.

Skills, space, time, community and audience. Can you rate yourself on these things?

And then there are your Inner Workings, again different for everyone but generally originating in a mix of fear and shame, and manifesting as anxiety, imposter syndrome, ADHD, procrastination, failure to start, failure to complete and the list goes on.

What blocks us is a collusion of Inner Workings and External Conditions. Often, our Inner Workings cause our External Conditions.

I made two worksheets that are free to download, one to help you evaluate your External Conditions, the other your Inner Workings.

We go around, over, under, straight through... or we blow it the hell up.

Together, we work on overcoming the stuff that’s in the way.

  • Step 1: We figure out what you want.
  • Step 2: We look at your strengths and what you have in place already and we look at the obstacles in the way.
  • Step 3: Figure out actionable steps that move you where you want to go. The actions you take address both practical obstacles and your internal obstacles.
  • Step 4: You start executing the actions to build up momentum. Together we keep focused with a killer mindset. I kick your ass or pat your back, depending on what's needed.
  • Step 5: Modify plan as needed to make sure you’re moving and optimistic.

Everyone is different, so the work is always different, but this is a useful guide to what we do together.

I’m a lot like you.

My name is Luke. I’m an artist who's worked successfully in multiple disciplines, who has restarted life a number of times for reasons ranging from boredom to tragedy. I've lived in studios, conference rooms, faculty lounges, a house with kids and a wife and a mortgage, and foreign cities with a laptop and coffee. And I bake bread!

Is there a name for this?

This is a mix of coaching and consulting. Coaching for the deep work; consulting because we want to move fast.

Coaching is helping you to find your own answers and actions and make lasting changes to your mindset and self-confidence. Consulting is “let’s  do this and get it the hell over with.” Because stuff needs to get done and sometimes hitting it with a hammer works. Whatever is needed to build the results you want and keeps you energized, because it is hard to do anything if your attitude is shitty.

The cross-disciplinary nature of my creative and business life enables me to understand the issues specific to your work, while providing me with a library of ideas and solutions from other experiences. It's one of the positives about working with a super-generalist: ideas rather than orthodoxy.

The Next Step

We schedule a Zoom to see if you accomplish more with me involved.

There’s nothing better than starting the day with a good conversation over coffee or breakfast, and that is how I like to begin coaching relationships as well. Click the button below to schedule a Zoom. If none of the times listed work for your schedule, shoot me a message and we’ll work something out that’s convenient for you.
